We took a day trip to escape the humidity in Puerto Vallarta to visit the town of San Sebastian Del Oeste which is a 45 minute drive from Puerto Vallarta in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains. This quaint little colonial town looks like time stood still, with it’s gorgeous hacienda style homes, restaurants and stores.
It’s known for the rustic buildings that have never changed and also La Bufa, which is a viewpoint that over looks the Banderas Bay.
We didn’t get a chance to go to La Bufa since it was a rainy & cloudy day but we plan on coming back. The best way to travel to view La Bufa is by a 4×4 vehicle. We saw many people going up in Jeep’s or ATVs which looked like so much fun!
The San Sebastian Del Oeste town is known for finding and making all of their foods and beverages from the mountains which makes a lot of their food organic. They make their own jams, and raicilla which is another form or mezcal also handmade crafts and silver jewelry.

We walked around the small little town and had lunch at Comedor La Lupita, which was delicious authentic Mexican food and also located in the beginning part of the town right before you enter. I had the machaca and my husband had smoked pork. Definitely a good family owned restaurant.
We had coffee at El Fortin de San Sebastian del Oeste which they grow their coffee beans in the mountainside region and tasted so good, I had the traditional cafe de olla.
We loved that we gotten a chance to explore this quaint little town. We went on a Sunday and wasn’t too busy but then again, it is June and consider to be Vallarta´s off season.
San Sebastian Del Oeste is a definite little town to visit while here in Puerto Vallarta a day trip is worth it seeing and the drive is a beautiful mountainside scenic route. We plan on coming back again and staying the night at one of their many cute little hacienda hotels.
